Qatargas said it has started the construction of 4 large production lines for liquefied natural gas, which will raise its annual production capacity from 77 million tons currently to 110 million tons.

The company stated in its account on Twitter that this step comes as part of Qatar’s plan to maintain its position as the largest producer and exporter of liquefied gas in the world.

The field is located off the northeastern coast of Qatar, and was discovered in 1970, and its reserves are estimated at 900 trillion cubic feet, equivalent to 10% of the gas reserves discovered in the world.

Huge production lines

Qatargas has 6 subsidiaries that own large LNG production lines.

These companies include:

  • Qatar Gas One, which was established in 1984, consists of 3 lines that produce 10 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually.
  • As well as the Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited, which was established in 1993 and has two pipelines that produce 5 million and 600,000 tons annually.
  • In 2005, the Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Three was established, with a production capacity of 15 million and 600,000 tons per year.
  • The “Qatargas Two” project also includes two pipelines that also produce 15 million and 600,000 tons per year.
  • The production capacity of the “Qatargas Three” project is 7 million and 800,000 tons annually, and its production has started since 2010.
  • In early 2011, Qatargas Four began production, with a production capacity of 7,800,000 tons annually.
