Paul Matters dead – former AC / DC bassist dies due...

Former AC / DC bass guitarist Paul Matters has died of health problems related to the rock and roll lifestyle, a friend said.

The rock star’s death was announced on by his buddy Rod Wescombe.

Paul Matter has died

Paul was only in the band for a few weeks in 1975

He said he led a “withdrawn life” in his later years and that his rock and roll lifestyle resulted in poor health as he got older.

Paul joined the band in 1975 after the release of their High Voltage album.

He had replaced the original bassist Larry Van Kriedt, but was fired within a few weeks by the late singer Bon Scott.

Matters was quickly replaced by Mark Evans.

But his successor Evans was also released from the band three years later in 1977.

Rod wrote on Facebook: “Shocked and saddened by the death of Paul Matters.

“I met Paul in 1973 when he was playing bass on Armageddon at a gig in Hamilton, Newcastle, NSW

“When I lived in Toronto, he would come into the house in the late hours to party, and he loved to party.

“In late ’75, after he left AC / DC, we played together in a one-off band called ‘Miss Australia Band’ performing on a ferry on Lake Macquarie.”

“I moved to Sunshine by the lake further south and Paul would stop by to relax whenever he was in the area.

“I remember he could always make me laugh when he was in the mood.”

Paul has only given one interview since leaving AC / DC, and that was for the Bon Scott biography The Last Highway: The Untold Story of Bon Scott and AC / DC’s Back in the Black.

During the 2017 interview, he said, “Bon got out of the truck and told me I wasn’t going back to Melbourne with them.

“We were up in Sydney doing a concert for school children. So I didn’t play that day.

“I just turned around and didn’t say a word to him. I turned around and went out. ”

After he left AC / DC in 1975, there was no more music.

At the beginning of this year AC / DC announced their new album ‘PWRUP’.

The rockers have uploaded a picture of the new album cover on Twitter, confirming the return of lead guitarist Angus Young (65), bassist Cliff Williams (70) and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young (63).

Malcolm Young, who formed the band with his brother Angus in 1977, died in 2017 after a long battle with dementia.
