Thunderclap on “Koh-Lanta: the 4 Lands”. At the end of episode 8 broadcast this Friday evening on TF1, it was Hadja who was eliminated during the first council bringing together all the candidates still in the race. A new phase of the adventure where his strong personality was undoubtedly fatal.
For LCI.fr, she looks back on her career, the promise she made to her brother, who died before participating in the program, her relationship with Alexandra and Alix. But also his meeting with Bertrand-Kamal, who died of cancer a few weeks ago.
Your elimination is playing out very little. How do you explain it with hindsight?
I am someone who takes up a lot of space, who has a lot of personality. Obviously people were a little afraid of me, especially those who did not know among the yellows. We’re not going to lie to each other!
Should you have gotten closer to some of them?
Yes, I think if I had gotten to know Lola and Angélique a little better, we could have done something together. After that, it was not my idea to go see people to ask them who they were going to vote for. Do you want to get to know me? Come see me. Do you want to vote against me? Never mind ! I’m not the type of person who will go and negotiate and sell their soul to save themselves. I’m a bit like that, it’s true. A little harsh.
In real life I am very sweet, I laugh a lot. I make jokes all the time!– Hadja
This image that you send back on the show, is it close to the one you are in everyday life? On a handball court?
I am very different! In real life I am very sweet, I laugh a lot. I make jokes all the time. Afterwards in a show you can’t show everything. On social media, a lot of people wondered why I hadn’t been eliminated before. But because the people on my team actually knew me. It was going very well between us. It is true that at first glance, I may have seemed haughty and not very sympathetic. And that on the first tests, we bickered a bit. But it’s a part of me too and I’m proud to have seen it on screen.
Can you tell us behind the scenes of your negotiation with Loïc, and how you ended up agreeing to make Marie-France leave?
No one wanted to go to the ambassadors. So I accepted, telling the reds that I would not go to the black ball. But before leaving, I went to see Marie-France, telling her that if I couldn’t negotiate the departure of a yellow, I would give her name. I have been very clear with her. With Brice, we had promised to bring him until reunification. But that afterwards, it would be different and she understood it very well.
Alix is an extraordinary person, she is extremely courageous. She’s the one for whom I have the most respect because she’s the only one who dared to speak to my face– Hadja
If you had obtained the departure of a member of the yellows, would the outcome have been different for you?
Without doubt, yes. Already the two teams would have been more balanced. And that would have created tensions among the yellows. In any case the cards would have been redistributed. The biggest worry in the negotiation for me… it was Loïc! Against any other candidate, I could have turned things to my advantage. But with Loïc, it was dead in advance. I don’t know him by heart, he’s someone who just works only by heart. And I knew he would keep his promise to the end, at the risk of being eliminated with a black ball.
You are the first member of the former Eastern Green Team to leave. How do you explain its success? What about the fact that you’ve all come this far together?
I think we had a team that represented France, with completely different personalities. Take Alexandra. She is completely perched and hyper logical. I remember the second immunity test. We arrive on the set, Denis Brogniart has not yet spoken and she says to me: ‘it’s good, we are going to win, I understood everything!’. While I had not yet understood what we were going to do! Physically, we were all athletes, girls and boys. And then there was this French cohesion, beyond our origins, with someone like Bertrand-Kamal, half Moroccan, and me, who is of Gambian origin. This is also what made the strength of our team.

- Aubin eliminated from Koh-Lanta: “I don’t think I was the weakest”
With Alexandra, it was a bit tense at the start. Was it a bit of a stretch on screen?
It was overkill, yes. It’s true that I had trouble with her at the beginning, because she was a bit at the end of her life … (Laughs) Afterwards she was really sick, eh! But we helped her a lot and for her part she made us laugh a lot. That’s why she always defended me in the media because the things I could say against her on the screen, she had already heard them at the time. And it’s true that I was not always very tender! (laughs).
On a different note, you nurtured a real rivalry with Alix. Was there no room for two strong women like you on this show?
Yes and no. I showed animosity towards her when she said that I had tried to put pressure on her during the mud test. Which was wrong. I realized that we had a different practice of sport, it very individual, me more collective. He is someone I did not like during the adventure. And that I learned to discover afterwards. Alix is an extraordinary person, she is extremely courageous. She’s the one for whom I have the most respect because she’s the only one who dared to speak to my face. Everyone else was afraid of me!
Often we say that the people who left us were the best in the world. But Bertrand-Kamal was really like that. He was a beautiful person… I don’t know why he left but that’s how it is. You have to accept it. – Hadja
You wanted to participate in Koh-Lanta to pay tribute to your big brother, who died a few weeks earlier. From this point of view I imagine that you are happy with your adventure, right?
I am very happy, yes. He had written my letter of application with me and I remember that we thought that given my character, if I passed reunification, it was a miracle! I went there and I think he would have been proud of me, yes.
You said that Bertrand-Kamal had become like a brother to you. Did you become close as soon as the show was filmed?
Yes because we spent so much time together… It is often said that he helped Alexandra a lot at the beginning, but he did it with me too. I really suffered from the disappearance of my brother and with him I actually felt like I had found a new brother! I told him: ‘you know I have four brothers, and you are the fifth’. Finding out about his illness afterwards was quite a shock. We create strong bonds with someone and they leave overnight.
- “I had found a new brother”: Hadja de “Koh-Lanta” upset by the death of Bertrand-Kamal
Everyone says he was the same in life as on screen …
I often insist on this: the editing did not exacerbate Bertrand-Kamal’s kindness. He was really like that. I even think that we do not see enough how good he was. Often we say that the people who left us were the best in the world. But he really was like that. He was a beautiful person… I don’t know why he left but that’s how it is. You have to accept it.
Who do you see winning this “Koh-Lanta”?
In the reds I have forged very strong ties with Bertrand-Kamal, Joaquina, Brice too. I would like the victory of one of them. After the yellows are more numerous and I can see Loïc went very far because he is both very efficient and very appreciated by all.
