RTE viewers praise the daughter of the late rock star Phil Lynott on The Late Late when they report that her father is a “proud Irish black”.
Sarah and Cathleen virtually appeared on the RTE chat show tonight to speak to Ryan Tubridy about their father and the new life documentary about to be released.
Born in Dublin, he died in 1986 at the age of 36 when his two daughters were very young.
The rock star immortalized his love for his two girls in beautiful songs and they talked about it on the show tonight.
Sarah said, “We both feel that they are love songs. Basically, they fill you with love and family every time you hear it.
Cathleen added, “And his bad sense of humor with the last line, ‘Shut up and go to bed,’ which my daughter thinks is very funny and uses herself when it’s time to go to bed.”
Sarah even revealed that many people reached out to her to tell her they were named after her song.
She said, “I definitely had a couple of Sarahs who came up to me and said I was named for your song.”
The two women also shared some of the fond memories they had of their father when they were younger.
Sarah recalled, “He was very funny and playful.
“He’d grab both of us by the hand and swing us around and we’d always bump into each other and we’d freak out and then want to do it again.”
While Cathleen said, “I don’t have that many memories.
“I have vague things that almost feel intangible the more I think about them. I have a feeling that they are not there.
“In the car he had a Mercedes with a blue tint on the windshield and only he looked back and checked us in.
“That’s mine, it’s more of a feeling.”
They both agreed that he was very proud to be Irish and that he wanted his two daughters to be born in Ireland.
Sarah said, “He was very proud to be Irish and wanted us to be born there.
“That’s something Mom goes into in the film. It wasn’t even a choice of what she would be.
“He would say that if he wasn’t in Ireland he would say I’m from Ireland and he would say in Ireland I’m from Dublin.”
‘PROUD IRISH BLACK MAN’
Cathleen added: “He was a very proud Irish black man. He went his own way. ”
They grew up with their father, but Sarah admitted that it was difficult for her to hear his songs when she was younger.
She stated, “We’ve both listened to him all the time in our lives and I definitely think to myself when I was younger there would be times when it was very painful to do.”
RTE viewers praised the two daughters for interviewing Ryan as they flooded Twitter with praise.
Twitter user Graham tweeted and said, “Phil Lynott’s daughters seem to be really cool nice people.”
Ann said, “The late Phil Lynnot’s daughters are as great as his songs about them.”
