Tour operator Jet2holidays has booked around 30,000 breaks in the Canary Islands since quarantine restrictions were relaxed last week.

The islands were added to the safe travel list along with the Maldives, Denmark and Mykonos on Thursday, and vacationers have rushed to secure a late-year sun break.

The holiday company and the airline will resume flights to Tenerife from October 30th and to Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from November 1st.

Online booking agent Lastminute.com also saw a surge in bookings to popular travel destinations as vacationers tried to escape the darkness of Britain’s Covid-19.

It is said that bookings for Gran Canaria between October 22nd and 25th rose 4,700 percent compared to the last four days, “with the other islands showing similarly large peaks”.

The low-cost airline easyJet already added seats for the mid-term break in October, from Gatwick and Manchester to Tenerife, from Manchester to Lanzarote and from Gatwick to Lanzarote in October.

There are also new connections from Edinburgh to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, from Glasgow to Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and from Belfast to Tenerife. The flights will start on November 7th.

The routes that should start this winter from Luton to Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria have now been brought forward to November 7th.

UK travelers are required to take a PCR test upon arrival at the resort airport, or provide a negative result from a test performed within 48 hours of travel.

The Spanish health form must also be completed 48 hours before leaving the UK. After completing this information, passengers will receive a QR code that will be scanned upon arrival in the Canary Islands.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, commented on the lifting of the quarantine: “The Canary Islands are of enormous importance to us as a company and to our customers as a popular holiday favorite. We know how much our customers want to spend winter sun in the Canaries, and they can do that again from October 30th. ”
