The three family members who died in a suicide in their family home near Kanturk in north Cork are due to be buried in two separate funerals in the coming days.

Tadhg O’Sullivan, 59, and his two sons, Mark, 26, and Diarmuid, 23, died on Monday in a “terrible family tragedy” that shocked the local community of Castlemagner near Kanturk.

Gardaí believes Mark O’Sullivan was shot dead by either Diarmuid O’Sullivan or his father or both in his bed at the family home, apparently as part of a dispute over a will.

The two men then went to a field some distance from the house where they appear to have committed suicide.

The three men are survived by Mr. O’Sullivan’s widow, Ann, who is described in the obituaries as “broken-hearted woman” by Mr. O’Sullivan and “broken-hearted mother” by Mark and Diarmuid.

Tadhg and Diarmuid O’Sullivan will be buried after a private funeral service for family members at St. Mary’s Church in Castlemagner on Friday at 2.30 p.m. and will then be buried in St. Brigid’s Cemetery in Castlemagner.

Mark O’Sullivan is buried after a private funeral service for family members that will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Kanturk. The funeral will then take place in an unknown location.

The funerals will take place in accordance with current HSE and government guidelines on Covid 19.

Mark O’Sullivan’s funeral will be broadcast live.

There are no live streaming facilities at St. Mary’s Church in Castlemagner, but members of the local Tadhg and Diarmuid O’Sullivan ward are expected to pay their respects by lining the streets of the village.

Local Pastor Canon Toby Bluitt said the people of Kanturk and Castlemagner parishes expressed their deepest condolences to Ms. O’Sullivan “for the tragic loss of her husband Tadhg and sons Mark and Diarmuid”.

In a message posted on the community’s page, Canon Bluitt said, “We are all deeply shocked and stunned by this heartbreaking news. We pray the Lord’s comfort for Ann and her family and pray for God’s mercy for Tadhg, Diarmuid and Mark. May they rest in peace. “

The Lake Garda investigations into the three murders are continuing. The technical experts from Garda are still investigating the family farm in Assolas between Kanturk and Castlemagner, which has still been declared a crime scene.

Garda technical experts are believed to have found correspondence from attorneys in-house confirming reports that there was a dispute between Mark on the one hand and Mr O’Sullivan and Diarmuid over a proposed will regarding the 115-acre operation gave.

Ms. O’Sullivan returned to the family home with Mark on Sunday evening after living with relatives in Castlemagner for two weeks after being discharged from Dublin hospital following an operation for a serious illness.
