The Ad Council entity today launched a campaign to combat distrust about the safety of coronavirus vaccines, disseminating messages on television stations, radios, websites and social networks in the United States, with a particular focus on black and Hispanic Americans, who have been hit hard by the pandemic.
The campaign, entitled “Depends on You”, will feature celebrities in future public service announcements produced by media partners.
Actress Rosie Perez, CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta and actor and rapper Daveed Diggs will star in ads produced by WarnerMedia. Actress Angela Bassett will appear in an ad produced by Fox, the Ad Council said.
The campaign will send people to the GetVaccineAnswers.org website, which will inform how the vaccine was approved for use and why there is more than one type of vaccine, among other questions.
The effort led by the Ad Council, a non-profit organization, is supported by more than 300 brands, medical experts and technology and media partners, such as Facebook and Walt Disney.
“It’s okay for people to be hesitant, and it’s normal to have doubts,” said Lisa Sherman, chief executive of the Ad Council.
But if mistrust of the vaccine is not addressed and an insufficient number of Americans have been vaccinated, “we will find ourselves in the same situation next year,” added Sherman.
