Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The Gulf Cooperation Council has sought for an official apology from caretaker Lebanese foreign minister Charbel Wehbe for his “unacceptable offenses” made by him in a recent TV interview.
Secretary-General of the GCC Nayef Al-Hajraf said in a statement that the “GCC countries reject and denounce what was stated by the foreign minister in the Lebanese caretaker government, Charbel Wehbe, during a TV interview in which he made disgraceful remarks against the Gulf Cooperation Council states and their people, as well as the insult against Saudi Arabia.”
Al-Hajraf reaffirmed the firm and well-established stances of the GCC member states in backing up the Lebanese people and history bears witness to these stances which aim at maintaining the safety of Lebanon and supporting its stability and security.
He added that such remarks are incompatible with the simplest recognized diplomatic norms and inconsistent with historical relations between the GCC member states and Lebanon.
