Norway: The bow and arrow attack looks like a terrorist

Norway’s Internal Security Agency (BST) said an attack by a man using a bow and arrow, which killed five people, appeared to be an “act of terrorism”.

The agency added in a statement, Thursday, that the attack, which occurred on Wednesday night in a small Norwegian town, “appears to be terrorist at the moment, and that investigations will clarify the motives for these incidents in more detail.”

It stated that the suspect is known to the agency’s agents, without providing further details about him.

On Thursday, police said the Danish man suspected of the attack had converted to Islam and had been previously reported by people as an extremist.

“Attacks on victims indiscriminately in public places are a common method among Islamic extremists who carry out terrorist attacks in the West,” according to the statement.

“The most likely scenario for an extremist Islamic terrorist attack in Norway is an attack carried out by one or a few persons with simple weapons against targets subject to little or no security measures,” it said.

The agency stated that the level of the terrorist threat in Norway “has not changed, and is considered moderate.”
