This launch came as one of the outputs of the G20 Tourism Ministers’ meeting, under the Presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the G20, to face the challenges caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, and to support efforts to revive the travel and tourism sector and to exploit its fundamentals to advance economic recovery after the repercussions of the crisis.
The final statement of the meeting of the G20 Tourism Ministers, on Thursday, supported the use of the Al-Ula framework for comprehensive societal development through tourism, as reliance on this framework embodies a guide for countries to ensure the contribution of tourism to achieving sustainable and comprehensive development by supporting communities with high tourism potentials; And identifying potential areas of work and major partners supporting local development.
The G20 tourism ministers meeting also focused on the important role of tourism in achieving sustainable social and economic development, as the travel and tourism sector contributions account for 10.3% of global GDP, and 330 million jobs (direct, indirect and induced) were created in 2019.
Tourism accounted for 28% of global service exports in 2019, and tourism has a strong impact on the local economy compared to total exports.
