Ten minutes into the second-half defender Mahmoud Alaa opened the scoring as he dealt with the ball brilliantly in the six-yard box after a lapse in concentration from the Al Masry defense.
Massoud produced yet another impressive save in the 70th minute, when Mostafa Mohamed took a powerful header as he was left alone inside the penalty box.
Both teams went on to have a number of opportunities throughout the remainder of the encounter but none of them really troubled the goalkeepers.
Zamalek now jump to second place, 15 points behind league leaders Al Ahly who will face ENPPI on Sunday at the Cairo International Stadium.
