Thank you for reading the news about Ex-Arsenal striker linked with Zamalek move and now with the details
Dubai - Yasmine El Tohamy - Cairo giants Zamalek are rumoured to be interested in signing ex-Arsenal forward Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer this January.
Earlier on Sunday, Zamalek have confirmed that their key striker Mostafa Mohamed is a few steps away joining French side AS Saint-Étienne.
The Whites will have a hard time replacing Mohamed as the only other striker in their squad is Omar El-Said, who scored only nine goals in 59 games since joining Zamalek.
Therefore, the club had confirmed before that will only sign a foreign player to replace Mostafa in case he leaves, with now reports emerging linking them with ex-Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo.
The reports have added that Sanogo was offered to Zamalek by a players agent and the club’s board have welcomed the signing after watching various videos of the Frenchman.
Sanogo, 27, has been a free agent since his deal with Ligue 2 side Toulouse was expired last July and the player is reportedly very keen on joining a new club this window.
Sanogo is a product of AJ Auxerre youth sector and managed to earn himself a move to English giants Arsenal after a series of impressive performances during the 2012/13 season of Ligue 2, which saw him score 10 goals in 13 games
What encouraged Arsène Wenger to sign Sanogo was also his exceptional displays in the 2013 U-20 World Cup with France, scoring four goals and guiding his nation to the title alongside Paul Pogba, Samuel Umtiti, Florian Thauvin, and many more.
In four years in London, Sanogo managed to net once for the Gunners in 20 games, but helped them win the FA Cup and the Community Shield, playing both finals.
He was sent out on loan three times to Crystal Palace, Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, and Charlton Athletic, managing just four goals in 25 games with three clubs.
A return to France was made in 2017 after his deal with Arsenal was terminated and during three years with FC Toulouse, Sanogo scored 16 goals while assisting four in 72 games, helping them avoid relegation on his debut season by scoring seven league goals.
He now could head to Egypt through Zamalek to become the first-ever Frenchman to play for the Whites, however, this will see the club let go of one of their foreign players.
