Pitso Mosimane made Al Ahly like Liverpool, says Egypt legend Mido

- Yasmine El Tohamy - Egypt legend Ahmed Hossam Mido has lauded Al Ahly’s head coach Pitso Mosimane, comparing the Reds under his leadership to Liverpool.

The Reds moved top of the table following an easy 4-1 victory over Entag El-Harby in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Despite a poor first-half display from the Reds, Al Ahly managed to score four in the second period, through Ali Maaloul, Hussein El-Shahat, and Walid Soliman.

Some of ex-Al Ahly players like Ahmed Belal, Mohamed Shawky, and Ibrahim Hassan had criticized the South African head coach before, with the latter even saying that Pitso would get sacked after two games with any other team.

However ex-Tottenham and AS Roma forward Ahmed Hossam Mido has another opinion, saying that Al Ahly under Mosimane play like Premier League giants Liverpool.

“During the first-half, Al Ahly appeared very poorly against Entag El-Harby. Their opponents had the advantage over them,” Mido said.

“However, Al Ahly under the leadership of Pitso Mosimane is distinguished by some specific details and the South African’s touch can be seen.

Al Ahly

“Mosimane’s Al Ahly play from the back and are very quick in applying the pressure. They became like Liverpool.

“Before Hussein El-Shahat’s goal, the ball was possessed by Entag’s players, before four or five players from Al Ahly applied high pressure and managed to intercept the ball.

“This is Mosimane’s touch that we didn’t see with former head coach René Weiler,” Mido added.

Al Ahly currently sit top of the Egyptian Premier League with 16 points from six games, just ahead of arch-rivals Zamalek on goal difference.

Since his appointment as the Reds’ head coach back in October, Pitso has led Al Ahly to 16 wins from 18 games, drawing the other two, with the team winning the Egyptian Premier League, the CAF Champions League, and the Egypt Cup with him.

He will hope to carry this form with the Reds when they face Bank Al Ahly in their next league game on Sunday, January 17.
