Thank you for reading the news about Mamangam is going to remain in your mind for a long time: Prachi Tehlan and now with the details
Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - Former international netball player Prachi Tehlan is best known for making her Bollywood debut with TV show Diya Aur Baati Hum in 2016. Now she is gearing up for her debut in the Malayalam film industry with Mamangam.
Shot in Tamil and Telugu, the historic drama Bahubali: The Beginning really changed the trend for the South Indian film industry and introduced a pan Indian audience to epic period dramas. Four years after the movie came out, people are still in awe of it.
"Not just South Indian films but even Bollywood has been making movies which are larger than life which are period dramas. The success of Bahubali was the main reason which opened avenues for period films and our industry follows a trend; if one thing works, everyone wants to do the same thing. But Mamangam, being an initiative from an industry which has never explored such a genre (pan-Indian films), is a great step because the Malayalam industry is a very content-based industry. Mamangam having such a varied storyline is blurring lines and I think it's a great opportunity."
Talking about the movie Prachi tells us it will stay with us long after we have left the theatre. "It is derived from the history of Kerala. There are fictitious as well as non fictitious characters in the film. It is not only about love or battle or war. It's a mixture of everything and it's about the journey and emotions of the characters in the film. It is about the sacrifice of women during those days who sent the men in their family to a festival like Mamangam when they knew they might not come back. It's going to remain in your mind and heart for a very long time."
What was it like shooting the battle scenes? "I honestly was not given enough training, not at all in fact. But they said I have to shoot a fight sequence tomorrow and I was like 'Really?!.' They had the confidence that being a sports person I could pull it off. I ended up hurting myself but it was a journey. I still have a scar from the injury and I've named it as Mamangam scar! Because every project I do, I end up hurting myself! So I have a scar from every project named after it. But it was fun."
